DIY Flower Pins

Last week a few girls and I got together to craft.

Yes, that's right. "Craft."

I never thought I would grow up to craft, let alone host six other girls to come and craft with me. Sure, I was in 4H growing up (Not as weird if you're an Iowan. Stop judging me Minnesotan-city folk) and I actually sewed a dress all by myself once.

It was this cute little sleeveless red number, with a small A-line to it. I worked my rear end off on that thing.

But apparently not enough of it.

The first time I ever wore it, the dress ripped right down the back when I bent over to pick up a pencil.

I was in Sunday School.

Talk about a modest church-going girl.

I sat right back up and didn't move for the rest of the class - when everyone got up to leave I pretended I was deep in prayer so they wouldn't see it. Once the coast was clear, I hid in the bathroom until someone I knew came and lent me their cardigan.

But despite my bad experience, I still like to attempt a craft every once in a while. So, when a friend of mine and I were talking about Emmerson Made flowers, and how much we wish we could afford them, I declared, "I'll bet there's a tutorial for that on a blog somewhere!"

You can find anything on the internet.

After a bit of searching we found one, but in the end we *ahem, I* deemed it too difficult. (If you'd like to try them anyway, here's the tutorial.) But instead we made smaller (read: easier) flowers from the always helpful Emily at Jones Design Company. So, I hosted a craft night with a few friends from small group and we got to work.

Fairly certain I still have yellow fabric hot glued to my coffee table. My bad.

Not too shabby, eh? They were SUPER easy. And the best thing is, no matter how you wear them they'll never rip enough for you to require a cardigan for added coverage. If you'd like to try them out you can find the tutorial for the flower pin here and the rolled fabric flowers here.

  1. I read this yesterday and me and my little girls did them tonight of course I took care of the hot glue and cutting, they managed the tracing. They turned out so cute, though I burned my finger SEVERAL times and I wasn't sure what size pins to get. I ended up getting smaller pins without thinking about how much more difficult they are to put on. Perhaps tomorrow I go get regular sized ones
